In Conversation with Dr. Rohini Pande
Dr Rohini Pande is currently the Henry J. Heinz II Professor of Economics and Director of the Economic Growth Center, Yale University. She is also a co-editor of American Economic Review: Insights. She has been regarded as one the most influential development economists of her generation according to American Economic Review and has made notable contributions to political economy, international development, gender economics, anti-corruption and efforts to combat climate change. This session is moderated by Lisa Ho where Professor Pande will speak about her career and path-breaking research.
In Conversation with Rukmini S
Rukmini S is an award-winning data journalist based in Chennai, India. She speaks to the WiEP community about her journey and book “Whole Numbers and Half Truths: What Data Can and Cannot Tell Us About Modern India." Rukmini has been a journalist since 2004, starting as a beat reporter with the Times of India. In 2013, she joined The Hindu, as National Data Editor and the first Data Editor in an Indian newsroom. Rukmini has also worked at HuffPost India, and is now a columnist for Mint and IndiaSpend. Rukmini won the Likho Awards for Excellence in Media in 2019 for data-driven reporting on changing attitudes to homosexuality. In 2020, she received an Honourable Mention for the Chameli Devi Jain Awards for an Outstanding Woman Journalist and her pandemic podcast, The Moving Curve, won an Emergent Ventures India Covid-19 Prize in the same year. In December 2021, Rukmini published her book titled “Whole Numbers and Half Truths: What Data Can and Cannot Tell Us About Modern India." As she interrogates how data works, and how the push and pull of social and political forces affect it, she creates a blueprint to understand the changes of the last few years and the ones to come.
Q&A Session with Shobhini Mukerjee, moderated by Lavanya Garg
On 21st August 2021, WiEP conducted a Q&A session with Shobhini Mukerji (Executive Director, J-PAL South Asia) to learn about her journey and motivations for working in the development sector. Q&A with Dr Rukmini Banerji, moderated by Mihika Sharma
On 8th March 2021, we organised an interactive session with Dr Rukmini Banerji to celebrate International Women's Day. Dr.Rukmini Banerji is the CEO of Pratham. She has extensive field experience in program design and implementation in rural and urban areas. Dr.Banerji also led Pratham’s research and assessment activities, including the well-known Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) effort from 2005 to 2014. She did her BA at St. Stephen’s College and attended Delhi School of Economics. She was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and completed her PhD at the University of Chicago. In 2008, she was awarded the Maulana Abul Kalam Shiksha Puraskar by the Government of Bihar, India. The session was moderated by Mihika Sharma. Mihika is currently a Senior Manager at Pratham, where she supports early childhood education programs running across 15 states of India, manages external partnerships and supports the implementation of a range of interventions for children aged 3-14 years in 8 states across India.
